The Rudaki Award for Linguistic Excellence

One of the greatest obstacles to education in the West is often the price of tuition. Generations of Americans are drowning in literally billions of financial debt, all in the name of the pursuit of knowledge. As bleak as the current education system in the US may seem, it is infinitely more difficult to navigate as a student from a country such as Iran, Afghanistan or Tajikistan for there are not only great cultural barriers to overcome but a vastly unjust initial financial cost as well. Towering like a great paywall from Babel, for these international students, it is not so much the price of tuition that is the biggest immediate hurtle but rather the initial obstacle of registering, and taking the government-approved English-language certification examination and passing with such a score whereby only then may the student apply for college admission, or for scholarship consideration.

At RLA, we already disrupted one trend by offering our students the lowest price-per-class hour and now we break down one more barrier still. Completing this circle with good thoughts, good words, and good deeds, our academy will donate 10% of each student’s tuition to defray the costs to certify English-language proficiency for Tajik students of merit in financial need. Highlighting this linguistic quagmire, the UK IELTS exam is not even offered in-country through Tajikistan’s British Councils but rather in Kazakhstan and just once a year. We are currently securing a long-term strategic partnership with the Bactria Cultural Centre, a local ACTED and CoCAD-certified non-profit organizations to administer regular TOEFL/IELTS tutoring sessions across the country, and annual awardees will be selected locally based on need, performance and character. Education is a human right, and as RLA students strive to seek greater understanding of the Persian world, each student will be contributing for students of the Persian world to pursue and achieve the same dream abroad.
